Funerary Neckpiece, 2024
Drawing inspiration from Victorian era funerary adornments, this work attempts to bring the practice to modern times. Historically, work in the field has often utilized drab colors and users consistently wear these garments to emphasize the period of mourning one would be in after a loved one had passed.
This practice, performed most commonly by the wealthy members of Victorian society, that had the funds to mourn by commissioning such grand and intricate garments.
Thus why this piece is made from such commonly found goods. Shirts and coats, some of my own, and some purchased from thrift stores, were twisted, pinned, and spray painted to hold their form. The angels and veil were also sourced from local second hand stores.
