Declaration of Human Rights Poster

Estimated Work-time: 3-4 weeks

This project had a much more unique design process than most typography projects I’ve worked on. For this, we were asked to utilize the same grid, and the same text from the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” website.

However, things began to stray from most projects as we were told to send our initial digital roughs, featured to the right, to three other classmates. Each student then received three others’ files. Utilizing their existing progress, we built shapes, lines, and added some color that complimented their existing design choices well. Examples of both sides of the exchange are shown below. We didn’t have to keep any of these changes exactly, but there was quick inspiration and ideas that came post file sharing.

As we progressed with the project, I ended up  utilizing the subject given and took inspiration from some of my previous “propaganda” style work. I also took a liking to the red lines I added to the file shown to the bottom right.

Overall, I thought this whole process was a great learning experience that proposed unique design challenges. It gave us constraints we hand’t worked with before and had a interesting subject matter as well.
