Burt Lake Burnout, 2023
Sat within Grand Valley State University’s Sustainability Agriculture Project was an audio retelling of the “Burt Late Burnout”. A forced relocation of both Chippewa and Ottawa communities that took place in October of the year 1900 in northern Michigan. Where in short, a sheriff and his deputies burned the entire village of Burt Lake on orders of the land’s new “owner”. A ownership transaction not consented by those living in the village.
